To build a future in which the art and craft of screen editing is recognised, respected, preserved and continuously developed as an essential creative discipline of cinema and audiovisual storytelling.
The Society of Indian Screen Editors Foundation envisions an India where the contribution of the screen editor is fully recognised—not merely as a technical role within post-production, but as that of a creative artist, storyteller and essential collaborator in the making of cinema.
We envision a professional community in which editors from every language, region, generation and sector of India's audiovisual industry can come together through a shared identity and a shared commitment to the craft.
India's cinema has always been diverse. Its languages, cultures, industries and storytelling traditions are many. Yet the fundamental act of editing connects them all: the shaping of images, sound, performance and time into meaning.
SISE seeks to make that connection stronger.
A future where the editor is recognised
Editing is one of the least visible yet most consequential creative processes in filmmaking.
The audience experiences the finished work, but rarely sees the thousands of creative decisions through which that work came into existence.
SISE envisions a culture in which the contribution of the editor is better understood and appreciated by filmmakers, institutions, audiences, educators and the wider creative community.
The editor should be recognised not simply for assembling material, but for shaping:
time, rhythm, performance, emotion, structure, perspective and meaning.
A Future Built on Knowledge
The future of editing cannot depend solely upon technological advancement.
Technology changes rapidly. The fundamental questions of storytelling remain.
SISE therefore envisions a professional culture in which knowledge is continuously exchanged between generations of editors.
Experienced practitioners carry an enormous body of practical, creative and historical knowledge. Emerging editors bring new perspectives, new technologies and new forms of storytelling.

Our Mission
The mission of SISE Foundation is to advance, strengthen and preserve the art, craft and profession of screen editing in India.
We pursue this mission through a number of interconnected commitments.
1. To Build a National Community
SISE seeks to bring together screen editors and allied professionals from across India's languages, regions, industries and generations.
We believe that a strong professional community is built through collaboration rather than competition.
The Foundation therefore works to create spaces where professionals can meet, exchange experience, discuss their craft and build meaningful professional relationships.
2. To Advance the Craft of Editing
SISE is dedicated to the continuing development of editing as an art and craft.
We encourage deeper conversations about the creative process of editing—from narrative structure and rhythm to performance, sound, silence, continuity, emotion and the construction of cinematic time.
Our mission is not simply to discuss editing, but to encourage a culture in which editors continually question, experiment, learn and create.
3. To Promote Education and Mentorship
Knowledge of editing cannot exist only within individual careers.
It must be shared.
SISE seeks to create educational opportunities for emerging editors while providing avenues through which experienced practitioners can share their knowledge and experience.
Through mentorship, workshops, seminars, masterclasses, fellowships and other educational initiatives, the Foundation aims to make professional knowledge more accessible to the next generation.
4. To Strengthen Professional Recognition
SISE seeks to strengthen the professional identity and recognition of screen editors in India.
The Foundation believes that the creative contribution of editing deserves greater visibility within the larger filmmaking ecosystem.
Recognition is therefore not limited to awards or titles. It also means creating a culture in which the editor's contribution is understood, respected and valued.
The SISE Title, as the Foundation's highest honorary professional distinction, represents one expression of this commitment to recognising distinguished contribution to the profession.
5. To Preserve India's Editing Heritage
A profession cannot fully understand its future without remembering its past.
India has a rich but insufficiently documented history of screen editing. The creative philosophies, working methods, careers and contributions of many editors risk disappearing with time.
SISE therefore seeks to document and preserve this heritage through archival research, publications, recorded interviews, biographies, digital preservation and historical documentation.
Our mission is to ensure that future editors can discover the people, ideas and creative practices that helped shape Indian cinema.
6. To Encourage Research and Publication
Editing is a creative discipline that deserves to be studied, written about and critically examined.
SISE seeks to encourage research into the history, theory, practice and evolving technologies of screen editing.
Through publications and knowledge initiatives, the Foundation aims to contribute to a growing body of literature and scholarship around editing and post-production.
7. To Support Professional Development
The profession of editing is continually changing.
New technologies, formats, platforms and methods of storytelling are transforming the working environment of editors.
SISE seeks to help professionals navigate this changing landscape through opportunities for learning, networking, collaboration and professional development.
The goal is to ensure that India's editors are equipped not only to respond to change, but to actively participate in shaping the future of the craft.
8. To Build International Connections
The future of screen editing is global.
SISE seeks to connect Indian editors with the wider international editing community and to bring India's editorial traditions into global conversations.
Through its engagement with TEMPO – the Federation of Film Editors' Associations, SISE participates in international conversations concerning editing practice, education, ethics, preservation and professional development.
Our mission is therefore both national and international: to strengthen editing in India while contributing to the global conversation about the craft.
9. To Encourage Democratic Participation
SISE is not conceived simply as an organisation for editors. It is an institution intended to be shaped by its members.
Its governance is founded upon principles of democracy, transparency, accountability, equality, artistic freedom and professional excellence.
The constitutional principle of:

expresses the Foundation's commitment to ensuring that participation and representation are not determined solely by position, seniority or distinction.
